injury

Here I thought my first post for July would be an update with gorgeous vacation pictures and highlights from our travel. Instead, we have another "souvenir" of sorts from our 12-day road trip.

Road Trip: Day 9 - we woke up on Saturday morning and began to ready ourselves to the day ahead, the Friedheim reunion. Andrew was swallowed up by one queen bed, content and cuddly, while Morgan and Matthew watched PBS in the other. Scott had gone to retrieve a luggage cart from the hotel lobby, and I had just turned away from the bed to get clothes out of the suitcase. Within a few seconds, Matthew was on the floor, between the two beds, crying.

Andrew, in great detail, described the fall. It was not that Matthew lost his balance after properly dismounting feet first, no. He actually rolled out of bed, according to Andrew (AKA Truth-Teller, no detail omitted). We gave Matthew a thorough check-up and could find nothing wrong, other than needing his usual consolation-cuddle after an injury.

Because the incident happened early in the morning, I wasn't confident that Matthew's crabby disposition later that day was from the fall. He's got two-year molars coming in, he had been stuffed in a Pack-N-Play for over a week, the weather was hot, we had been away from home for so long... I actually thought maybe he had an ear infection. Ibuprofen helped him immensely and lead me to believe teething was the issue.

Fast-forward to Monday night, and Scott noticed that Matthew was favoring his left hand. We had only been back in town for a couple hours, and bedtime was right around the corner. Tuesday and Wednesday passed, and we discussed the possibilities of a wrist injury, but talked ourselves out of taking him in to the doctor.

This morning, my "mommy intuition" told me today was the day. A visit to the pediatrician resulted in a prescription for an x-ray, which later confirmed a fractured wrist.

Matthew never shed a tear getting his cast on. He was thrilled to be home and back in action. Went down easy tonight, too. This kid of ours is one tough cookie.

The two weeks will pass quickly, I'm sure, and we'll look back on this "milestone" as a small blip on the radar. We are thankful Matthew's wrist wasn't more severely injured and that God took care of him until we managed to recognize the issue. Now we just have to keep him out of the water table!

I enjoyed your positive outlook, thanking God despite of Matthew's injury. They heal quickly when they are so young! Praying he will be back to himself soon.

Looks to me like he's about out of the crib too....not just the pack-n-play.
