a little history

Over Memorial Weekend, Scott and I went west to visit my parents (and Joel, who is home for the summer). It was an awesome weekend... fun up north on Saturday at the reunion, and perfect weather to spend the remaining weekend south at the lake with Grandma. Unfortunately, I was too preoccupied on my raft in the water on Sunday afternoon to even think about getting out the camera. This ultimately lead to a little bit of redness, too, but we won't go there. Here's the highlights from Saturday in northern Dutch-country (oh, and there are two more photos I wanted to add, but Blogger is being difficult, so stay tuned)...

up for air

Today was the first in a long time that I've been able to relax at work. We had a brand new event this past weekend that had greatly monopolized my time over the past month. Today was the exhale, and it felt good (especially knowing that I've got lots of flex time coming!). It will be another couple months before our signature Walk, thank goodness.

Meanwhile, I'm doing my best to play catch-up with everything else... emails, blogging, yardwork, etc. I am really looking forward to the holiday weekend with family and the extra day away from the office. And it looks like awesome weather, too! Woo hoo!

mother's day

Scott and I had our parents (and my grandma) over for dinner on Saturday night to celebrate Mother's Day...

the office

There aren't very many shows on television these days that I enjoy. But the season finale of NBC's The Office last night was so great. So great, in fact, that I just had to blog about it!

I'm not sure why I love that show so much. In fact, I despised it when Scott first started tuning in. But it grew on me, and now I can't get enough. I'll admit, you really have to understand the humor and not be offended by idiot-regional-manager Michael Scott (Steve Carell). However, the love story is what drew me in... the saga between young sales guy Jim and receptionist Pam (who just happens to be engaged to a guy who works in the office warehouse... don't worry, he's a jerk, and Jim is just what she needs).

Last night's episode was an ideal season finale... I don't know if I can wait all summer to find out how Pam reacts to Jim pouring his heart out and telling her his true feelings, but I'll be on the edge of my seat in September when the season premiere hits the airwaves!

conference recap

As I mentioned earlier, I was in St. Louis all last week with three other members of my church attending a conference on how to launch a small group program in our congregation. The series is called ChristCare, an operation of Stephen Ministries.

Like any conference, it was exciting, uplifting and motivating. And just like any conference, I arrived back home in reality wondering how in the world we are going to make it all work. Thanks to a 20 lb. manual (no joke), and five days of training, I feel equipped! And as a side note... it was one of the best-organized conferences I've ever attended. I loved seeing how all their detailed planning came off without a hitch. Even the manual was amazingly organized and now neatly holds every handout I received... sigh.

My favorite conference speaker, Rebekah Maul.

These are the amazing people from Table 4!
We sat together most of the week.

And the table emblem we worked on together. Our theme was growth, and we decided to make a tree, incorporating all the elements from the week (wind, wood, earth, water, fire). I know, it looked much better in person, BUT our table actually won the Sunshine award ("most brightens your day").

While in St. Louis, Scott and I were able to visit some of my
favorite family on my mom's side. Here we are out to lunch...
